BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT SIKHS

The basic tenets of Sikhism put forward by Guru Nanak Dev are:

2 Kirat Karo Earn a living by honest means

 

3 Wand Ke Shako Share your earnings with the less fortunate

 

The fundamental concepts and philosophy have been expounded by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh Religion and elaborated by his successor Gurus.

 

1. Sikhs believe in one God, i.e. "Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of man."

 

2. Sikhs do not believe in any kind of rituals, omens, superstitions, fasts or worshiping of idols.

 

3. Sikhs reject all distinctions of religion, race, caste, colour, creed or status.

 

4. Sikhs believe in casteless and classless egalitarian society, guaranteeing equal status to women in every walk of life.

 

5. Sikhism is a social religion.  love, ethics, morality, selfless service and sacrifice are the very basis of this religion.

 

6. Evolution of the spirit is not possible without righteous conduct and adherence to social morality.

 

7. The gospel of Sikhism makes it obligatory to pray for the good of all the living beings irrespective of one's religion, race, colour or creed.

 

8. According to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, God is never born, nor does he die. He is everlasting
